TRAINING, OVERTRAINING, DETRAINING AND RETRAINING

 TRAINING

Sports training is a special process of preparation of sports persons based on scientific principles aimed at improving and maintaining higher performance capacity in different sports activities.

It is a particular type of training designed to improve fitness and abilities to perform in a given sport.

Effects of training

  1. Training allows the body to gradually build up strength and endurance
  2. It improves skill levels.
  3. Training builds motivation, ambition and confidence.
  4. Training also allows athletes to gain more knowledge of their sport.
  5. It helps in enabling athletes to learn about the importance of having a healthy mind and body.
  6. Adequate training enhance performance.

OVERTRAINING
Overtraining occurs when an athlete doesn't adequately recover after repetitive intense training. This is seen when the workload is not balanced with enough recovery period.

Effects of overtraining
  1. Decline in performance
  2. Unusual feeling of heaviness
  3. Excessive sweating
  4. Lack of motivation to perform
  5. Injury proneness
  6. Fatigue
  7. Unplanned weight lost

DETRAINING

Detraining is the partial or complete loss of training-induced adaptations, in response to an insufficient training stimulus. Detraining characteristics may be different depending on the duration of training cessation or insufficient training.

Effects of detraining
  1. Injury proneness
  2. Decrease in performance level
  3. Lack of motivation
  4. Unusual weight gain
  5. Muscular atrophy
  6. Loss of fitness adaptations
RETRAINING
Retraining is the set of adaptive responses to resuming training after a period of training cessation.

Effects of retraining
  1. Re-establishment of form
  2. Renewal of motivation and willingness to perform
  3. Increased fitness level
  4. New feeling of refreshment
  5. Muscular hypertrophy
